Why can’t there be play dates for adults?
At my age, making new friends feels a bit awkward, and yet here I am, trying to find ways to connect with others. How do you go about making new friendships as an adult, and what do you hope to get from them?

I use food and cooking to make new friends. Ever since college, inviting someone for a meal has been my main way of making social connections. I expect to have their undivided attention for an hour or so, and maybe get a return invitation.
